This music emerged because of the rebellion against the pop music that expanded rapidly in the 1970s. NWOBHM has a different style of music that evolved at that time. The New Wave of British Heavy Metal style music was not intended to be main stream or be popular with a large population. There were lots of NWOBHM bands around that only had one hit, then disappeared from the music scene because they could not survive.
